How do I become a member?
Where?
Register online using our membership form, or call in to the Shed and sign up with us in person. Members must be 18+.
What do I need?
Your contact and address details and a UK debit or credit card. On your first visit, bring two forms of ID including proof of address.
How much?
£10 a year (free for Settle residents - see above). Items then cost £1, £4 or £8 each to borrow.

How many items are available to rent?
Around 900, and the collection keeps growing.
Can I see your stock before I become a member?
Yes - the whole catalogue can be browsed online without signing up.
Why are you charging a membership fee?
We're a not-for-profit. The yearly fee helps cover rent and bills so the Shed can keep serving the community.
Do I have to pay for my membership fee with a debit card?
The £10 fee is paid by card when you sign up. After that you can pay borrowing fees in cash in the shop if you prefer.
Why do I have to provide an ID and proof of address in person?
It helps keep our stock secure. We only check the documents on your first visit and use them for nothing else.
Will my membership automatically renew each year?
No. We'll email you before it expires so you can choose whether to renew.
Can I cancel my membership?
Yes - just get in touch.

What is 'Lend Engine' and how do I use it?
Lend Engine is the online system many lending libraries use. It's where you register, browse the catalogue and reserve items.
Frequently Asked Questions - Item rental
How far in advance can I rent an item?
Up to 3 months ahead. Please only reserve what you'll really use, so others can borrow it too.
How long do I keep something I have rented?
Until the following week - collect in one week and return during opening hours the next.
When do I pay the rental fees for my item(s)?
Lend Engine works out the fee when you reserve. You pay by card or cash when you collect.
Will late fees be charged if I forget to return an item(s)?
Yes, £1 a day, to keep items moving for other borrowers. Tell us early if something's holding you up and we may waive it.
What if the item(s) I want to rent are already taken by somebody else?
Check for similar items - we have more than one of some things. We watch demand and add stock where we can.
What happens if an item gets damaged during my rental?
Tell us - accidents happen. We'll repair or replace it. We only charge in cases of serious misuse, as set out in the membership T&Cs.

Will my item come with necessary ancillaries & accessories?
Often, yes - cordless tools come with batteries and a charger. For consumables like drill bits or screws, ask your volunteer when you collect. You may need to buy your own.
